Weeds

WEEDS
I am not a Gardner. Oh I try hard enough, but after much trial and error my planting style has been reduced to the "plant and pray" method, which since I am already on my knees comes quite easily.
There is however, one area of gardening that I don't seem to have any trouble with. WEEDS! I can do just about anything and those little fellas just seem to thrive. Of course this is contradictory to my goal, but I have to say that I admire their tenacity. They have a stick-to-it-ivness that I wish I had in most areas of my life. And there in lies the root of the problem. (pun intended).
Weeds are like sin, they grow fast, often smothering other plants to get the most light, they produce lot's of seeds and have different ways of spreading them around, their seeds germinate quickly and tend to survive over several years, and they have have an effective defense system that protects them from predators. Can you see the similarities?
Sin can grow fast and smother our hearts blocking out God's light, one sin often leads to another and takes on a variety of forms (subtle lies, indifference etc...), left unattended sin can germinate quickly and can lead one into a battle that takes years to overcome ( addiction to alcohol, pornography or abuse), and sin also has a strong defensive system, it's called denial.
Weeds have no preferences, you can find them just as easily in the most well tended to gardens as you can in the cracks of the sidewalk. Left unattended they will thrive and eventually take over.
Solution? Tenacity, stick-to-it-ivness, and perserverence. Be diligent! Examine your garden regulary and pluck out those darn weeds. If things get out of hand, hit your knees then "pray and pull". Do this often enough and you will find that the weeds begin to dwindle, cropping up less and less. But don't become to comfortable. After all, there is always a dandelion looking for something to devour.
