"Under Construction"

It all started with a little yellow sign. I ran into often enough. All it said was "Yield", but that would mean I would have to let someone go ahead of me,and I liked being first.
Down the road I went and after a while another sign emerged on the horizon, "Be Prepared to Stop" it said. I peered down the road and saw the red lights popping up one at a time. I slowed my pace, rolled my eyes, eventually came to a complete stop and began to do something I dreaded even more than yielding, "I waited".
After what seemed like an eternity I began to move forward, I couldn't have gone more than fifty feet before it hit me square in the face, in big bold letters stood yet another sign: "DETOUR".
That did it!!! "Lord" I cried. "First I have to yield, then I am required to wait, and if that isn't enough, now I am being sent in a direction not of my choosing and out of my way. When is all this construction going to end? As the words spilled out of my mouth I already knew the answer.
"He who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ". (Phil.1:6)
I am under construction. God desires me to yield to Him so that I will develop a servants heart. To wait on Him and trust his timing to be perfect, and to allow Him to lead me in a direction of his choosing even if it means a path I am unfamiliar with . The amazing thing is that as I have traveled down the road I have learned that by yielding, things go much smoother. By waiting I have learned patience and have avoided hitting "pot holes" I might have otherwise encountered had I not waited for the work to be completed. And finally, by following the path God has chosen (which is often longer) instead of taking the shortcut, I have learned to be obedient to the leading of the Holy Spirit and have grown in my faith.
Construction is never easy, but always necessary if growth is to take place. But better a "hard hat" than a "hardened heart".
